This Christmas 2008 consider Mary and Joseph on the night Jesus was born. Times were tough. Foreign soldiers occupied the land. Taxes had never been higher. And now some mindless government bureaucrat forced them to travel cross-country to be counted in a census. And finally, to make matters infinitely worse, Mary was in labour with no place to lay her head.

And yet, after an Old Testament full of mostly obscure prophecies about the coming of a Messiah, it was on that night, when things couldn't be worse, that Jesus was born and laid in a manger, from which he would eventually rise to sit at the right hand of God. And even more amazing, along the way we would be redeemed.
